ABOUT

With sounds rooted in big, infectious pop choruses and a flair for theatrics, Edmonton’s queer pop duo Homofonik turns heartbreak into bops, and joy into catchy, euphoric bubblegum pop. The duo, a collaboration between long-time friends Josh Travnik (vocals) and Daniel Belland (keyboards), draws influence from the dance-forward heartbreak pop of artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Robyn, Years & Years, and Troye Sivan.

The duo’s most recent single is Test Drive, an 80s-inspired electropop track evoking neon summer nights and recalling the feeling of late-night car rides laced with romantic potential. 2022 is set to be their biggest year yet, and Homofonik’s upcoming string of releases prove that they are never ones to shy away from making big and bold choices. “We have a clearer sense of the kind of music we want to make,” says Belland. “Not being able to play the shows that we wanted to play because of the pandemic has only made us ache for live shows more.”

It’s no accident that their music evokes the community and energy of queer spaces — Homofonik’s brand of electropop is deliberately full of the queer representation that they never saw growing up. Embracing their love of pop maximalism combined with personal experiences and relatability, Homofonik is ready to bring the dancefloor to your living room. “We’re writing songs for the kind of experiences that we wish we could have right now and living vicariously through our music,” says Travnik.
